We are always open to trying a new producer from Sicily’s Mount Etna region. It has been eye opening to see what is going on in this small Sicilian appellation.

Maugeri is a relative newcomer from a long established Etna family, with property on the East slope of Mount Etna,  an area known for white wine production and the only region allowed to use the Etna Bianco Superiore designation. In fact they produce no red wine.

They do have Nerello Mascalese planted but it is only used for this Rosato, and I cannot imagine a better use for these grapes. From the pale onion skin color, I was expecting a delicate wine. The texture was on the delicate side, but in the mouth the flavors were complex and layered. The longer I kept it in my mouth the more flavors I discovered. I did not want to spit it out. It is that good! And no, 2023 is not too “old
