Casa Aurora is German Blanco’s Homage to his great grandmother, one of the first female miners in Spain, who raised him in Albares de la Ribera, a small village in Leon just outside of the Bierzo DO. A field blend of native Spanish varieties; Mencia, Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouschet) & Palomino. Very old vines are typical in this region, and this wine comes from relatively youthful 46-year-old bush vine trained vines. Grapes are fermented with indigenous yeast and aged for 9 months in oak foudres, neutral barrels, stainless tanks and concrete eggs.

La Nave is bright and spicy, with notes of cherry, cranberry and plum, light in body and crisp acid to finish.  It is a great introduction to Bierzo red wines. Pair this with roasted pork shoulder or a slab of Manchego cheese. (Jason)
